About this studio

Performance Ballroom Dance is run by Brian Lavelle, a national rhythm champion who teaches private lessons, group classes, and wedding choreography from a studio in Scottsdale. Brian's background is extensive: he started dancing at age 9 with training in jazz, tap, and ballet, attended the prestigious Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts, and performed in over 20 Equity Theatre productions including "A Chorus Line" and "West Side Story". He then trained with 12-time world rhythm champions Bob Powers and Julia Gorchacova, collecting titles including "Rising Star Champion" and "American Pro-Rhythm 1st Place National Champion".

The studio teaches swing, waltz, rhumba, salsa, and other ballroom and Latin styles. Private lessons are available in-person or virtual, tailored to your skill level and style, whether you're brand new to dance or looking to enhance existing skills. Lessons work for singles and couples alike, and can focus on the basics, custom choreography, date nights, or preparation for performance opportunities.

Wedding packages are a specialty. Brian creates custom first-dance routines, teaches social dance moves for the reception, and can choreograph father-daughter dances. Past clients report he makes lessons approachable and fun even for those with minimal dance background. One couple danced to Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me" after just a few sessions; another client said Brian tailored lessons to their ability and made dancing unexpectedly fun.

Group lessons accommodate up to eight people and are ideal for bachelorette parties, birthdays, or regular weekly workouts. At night, the studio features colored lights for a party atmosphere. The studio also offers performance opportunities where clients can showcase their progress for friends and family.

Beyond group and private lessons, Performance Ballroom provides corporate and special event services: spectacular dance performances for large gatherings, or interactive dance instruction (salsa, swing, or merengue) tailored to your event. Brian is known by students for his easygoing, fun attitude and sense of humor during lessons.
