About this studio

Sol Studio is owned and operated by Capoeira El Paso (CEP), Inc., which has been active in the Southwest since 2001 and has operated as a non-profit organization since 2007. The studio's mission is to facilitate the spread of various movement arts throughout the region. Located at 4106 Montana in El Paso, the studio is designed to be accessible to people throughout the city and neighbouring areas including Las Cruces and Juarez.

The studio features a 650 square-foot sprung hardwood dance floor, which cushions the joints of dancers and is suitable for all styles of dance and movement arts. Classes span capoeira at beginner and advanced levels, hip hop, contemporary dance, jazz, tai chi, and traditional Pacific Island rhythms. Children's classes include Kinder Capoeira for ages 3–6 and Kids Capoeira for ages 7–13, while adults and teens can pursue capoeira, Midrash Dance (hip hop and contemporary), or jazz instruction.

Capoeira instruction is led by Jon-Michael Blowe and Lori Navarrete. Midrash Dance classes are taught by Nicole Medrano. Island Rhythm Polynesian Dancers are led by Ciara T., and Sacramento Tai Chi is taught by Ray Abeyta. Strut Heels Choreography is instructed by Iryss Ramirez. Advanced capoeira classes follow the cord system of the United Capoeira Association and require instructor approval; they incorporate music-playing, percussion instruments, singing in Portuguese, and capoeira history and geography.

The studio hosts several performance groups: Burlesque on the Rio (directed by Stella Benz and Darlina Bolding), Hipshum Fire Fusion (led by Blanca Madrid), Samba Alma de Fogo (led by Lori Navarrete), Island Rhythm Polynesian Dancers, and K-Pop (led by Annette Ricci). Private instruction is available in ballroom, salsa, cumbia, samba, flamenco, and other styles, with pricing set by individual instructors. Samba dance classes are coming soon.

The studio is available for space rental by the hour, day, week, or month, making it a flexible option for other movement arts instructors and practitioners. Spanish is spoken by some instructors.
