Soul Movement is a dance studio in West Palm Beach created to provide technical dance training to Palm Beach County, with a particular focus on serving underrepresented communities in dance. The studio teaches ballet, modern, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop and African dance across a range of ages and levels.
Classes begin at age 3 with Creative Movement options in ballet and tap/jazz, designed to help young children explore movement through music, develop physical skills and stimulate imagination while learning basic terminology. As students progress, they move into dedicated ballet classes (levels 1 and 2 for ages 5+), modern classes taught using Horton technique fundamentals, jazz classes focusing on isolations and performance quality, and contemporary classes that blend modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet elements.
The studio's philosophy extends beyond technique. Parents describe the environment as a family and support system, with instructors creating space for students to develop confidence, body awareness, self-expression and cultural pride. The studio emphasises the connection between physical and emotional wellbeing, with one named programme, Wellness Wednesday, including conditioning to develop strength and discipline.
Soul Movement also operates Soul Stage Dance Ensemble, a performance company for advanced students. The studio offers private lessons and choreography services, including preparation for auditions at schools like BAK and Dreyfoos. They arrange performances for private, public and community events, and provide dance classes for private organisations and birthday parties. Soul Movement Creative Art Space, a 501c3 organisation, supports the studio's mission by offering tuition assistance and scholarships.
