Steel City Academy of Dance has been operating since 2003, when owner and artistic director Bethany Wingerson established the studio after teaching at Pat's Dance Studio for 8 years. The studio offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro, and KidzCombo for students from age 2.5 through advanced levels.
The teaching staff includes instructors trained at major institutions including The Atlanta Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, The Boston Ballet, Ballet Florida, School of American Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Pointe Park University Dance Conservatory, Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts, Westinghouse Arts Academy, and Pittsburgh CAPA. Bethany Wingerson specializes in Classical Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, and Jazz. Katalina Scott, a classical ballet and pointe instructor, was awarded a full scholarship to the School of American Ballet at age 13 and was the youngest member to join Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre at age 16, where she danced lead roles in classics including Giselle, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Brooke Mest, who began at Pat's Dance Studio at age 6, studied at the Point Park University International Summer Dance Program and danced lead roles with Lake Erie Ballet. Lauren Scheible trained through 11 years as a student and now teaches Acro and Jazz. Jen Makowski specializes in Acrobatics and has implemented Acro Yoga into her class design. Lexi Rossey specializes in the Ballet/Jazz Combo program for ages 6–8. Caitlin Murphy, trained in all available genres at Steel City and at Westinghouse Arts Academy, attended The Cincinnati Ballet Summer Intensive in 2024.
Classes span a wide range. Ballet classes focus on technique, strength, flexibility and alignment, with classes ranging from 45 minutes for beginners to 90 minutes for advanced students. The jazz program combines Contemporary, Hip Hop, Broadway, Modern, Luigi, and Fosse styles. Tap instruction is based on the Al Gilbert method, with graded levels progressing from early ages (3–5) into eclectic and free-form style emphasizing sound and rhythm. Acro classes, for ages 5 and up, teach basics, technique, and safety, with intermediate and advanced levels available. KidzCombo, for ages 2.5–6, combines tap, ballet, creative movement, stretching, and tumbling, including use of a trampoline. Pointe classes are offered to students with multiple years of ballet study who are physically ready.
The studio is located at 207 West 7th Avenue West in Homestead, just blocks from the Waterfront. The space features a professionally sized dance floor, full coverage mirrors, high ceilings, and a professional-grade marley-type vinyl floor suitable for all styles of dance. The studio includes multiple lounge areas and a well-sized waiting area where parents can observe classes in comfort. The building offers ample, private parking and is easily accessible.

The studio is led by owner and artistic director Bethany Wingerson, trained at Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts, The Atlanta Ballet, The Boston Ballet, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, plus Point Park College Dance Conservatory. Other instructors include Katalina Scott, trained at School of American Ballet and a former principal dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre; Brooke Mest, a Point Park University dance minor; and specialists in acro, jazz, tap and combo classes. All instructors have studied at professional ballet companies and conservatories.

Studio history
Bethany Wingerson founded Steel City Academy of Dance in 2003 after teaching at Pat's Dance Studio for 8 years. She began studying dance at age two and trained professionally from age 11 at Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts, The Atlanta Ballet, The Boston Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and Point Park College Dance Conservatory. She has been teaching and choreographing since her teenage years and produces original choreography for the studio's class and performance repertoire.
