About this studio

The Dance Department Company has been serving Midwest City and surrounding communities for more than 40 years. Originally founded by Karen Clark, a respected teacher and mentor, the studio became known for its commitment to every child who walked through its doors. When Karen retired during the COVID-19 pandemic, she entrusted the studio to Shelby McClure, who had owned and directed a successful dance studio in Mustang for more than a decade. Shelby accepted the opportunity with one mission: to honour everything that made this studio special while continuing to welcome every child with open arms.

The studio teaches ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern/contemporary, musical theatre, acrobatics, and acrodance. Twirlz & Toez classes serve ages 2–4 and introduce young dancers to ballet, tap, and acrobatic movement. All older students are placed by ability rather than age, because the studio believes children mature and learn at different rates. Free trial classes are available. The studio serves students from Midwest City, Del City, Choctaw, Spencer, Oklahoma City, Harrah, Jones, and surrounding communities, with current dancers ranging from 2 years old to 65 years old.

Beyond steps and technique, the studio emphasises life skills: teamwork, communication, cooperation, responsibility, respect, perseverance, and leadership. Every class is designed to balance discipline with joy. The studio's teaching staff brings varied backgrounds and training; together they challenge students to reach their highest potential while helping them discover why they fell in love with dance. The studio's values centre on effort over perfection, teamwork over individual success, and putting families first.

Private lessons are available in all dance styles, technique, flexibility, leaps and turns, acro fundamentals, musical theatre, choreography, and pageant preparation. The studio also offers birthday parties (base package includes 2-hour party time, party host, instructor-led dance portion, two tables, 20 chairs, music/speaker access, and electronic invitation; add-ons include photo booth, casual photography, and extra time) and a 12-passenger van rental for groups, families, dance teams, sports groups, wedding parties, and airport travel, with weekly rates available and airport delivery at an additional fee.

Registration is an annual fee covering online account access. Tuition is a monthly payment calculated across a 10-month season (August–May) and includes costume and picture fees. The studio accepts cash, personal cheque, credit card (with a fee), Venmo, and PayPal. Tuition is due on the 1st of each month; a $30 late fee applies on the 5th. A signed registration form is required before a student can take a class.
