About this studio

The Dance Lab is a new studio in Baton Rouge founded in 2025 by Emily Leeper and Josie Serigne DeAgano, co-owners and artistic directors. The studio teaches ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, acro, contemporary, lyrical, pointe, leaps & turns, and conditioning for dancers of all ages and skill levels.

Emily Leeper brings more than 20 years of dance industry experience and over a decade as a teacher and choreographer. She is the Director of Dance at MSA East, where she was named 2024 MSA East Elementary Teacher of the Year. Emily was a D1 National Hip Hop Champion in 2018 with the Southeastern Louisiana University Lionettes (2016–2018) and later returned as Assistant Coach (2019–2020, 2022–2023). She was crowned Miss Dance of Louisiana 2013 through Dance Masters of America and placed as 4th Runner-Up for Miss Dance of America 2014. She also held the title Teen Miss Dance of Louisiana 2011. Her performance and choreography credits include work on New Orleans pop artist Caly Pearse's music video "One You Won't Forget."

Josie Serigne DeAgano has over 20 years in the dance industry and 12 years of teaching and choreographing experience. She performed in the Beyoncé Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show, danced with The Pointer Sisters, and appeared in Miss Gay Louisiana and America's Got Talent. She holds certifications in Acrobatic Arts, Alixa Flexibility, Sugarfoot Therapy, Relative Motion, and Building Blocks of Dance. Josie is a proud alumna of Southeastern Louisiana University Lionettes and currently serves as technique coach for the Saint Charles Catholic Starsteppers.

The studio's faculty includes Maya Spitzer (Hip Hop & Jazz Funk/Conditioning), Brianna Jordan (Hip Hop & Jazz Funk), and Breleigh Bentivegna (Tap). The Dance Lab emphasizes small classes for personal attention, certified and experienced instructors, skill and character development, and a family-friendly atmosphere. The studio offers competition opportunities and runs a company with auditions held in June for ages 4-7, 8-12, and 13+. Summer 2026 programming includes weekly summer classes (June 8–July 17 for ages 7-12 and 13+), multiple themed dance camps (Snuggle Squad for ages 2-5, Princess & Superhero for ages 2.5-6, Summer Splash Luau for ages 5-9, Jungle Jam Jamboree for ages 2-5), and intensives including Advanced Ballet, Intermediate Ballet, Inferno Intensive for teens and juniors, and Level Up Bootcamp. The Launch Series offers monthly pop-up classes with guest instructors at $30 for Minis/Juniors (ages 6-11) and $40 for Teens/Seniors (ages 12+).
