The Dance Space

The Dance Space is a locally black-owned and woman-owned dance studio in downtown Charleston, founded and led by Allie Williams, a professional dancer and educator from Texas. Williams discovered her passion for dance at age six and has spent over a decade mastering a wide range of styles: jazz, lyrical, ballet, musical theater, heels, commercial and hip-hop styles, tap, and contemporary. She trained with top instructors including Galen Hooks, Lyrik London, Phil Wright, Ysabelle Capitule, Cat Cogliandro, Krista Miller, Alexander Chung, and Sienna Lalau. Her choreography has won judges' choice awards at national dance competitions; she has choreographed for Yella Beezy, the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleaders, and Disney. She was featured in the New York Times for her performance at the International African American Museum's opening ceremony. Williams remains committed to continuous growth, training in New York City multiple times a year.

The studio offers classes for ages 2.5 through adults, with separate adult and youth programmes. The Adult Programme serves beginner through advanced levels, designed for people with busy lives who want to move with confidence and reach their full potential. Classes include Open Level Technique, Advanced Technique, Beginner Ballet, Intermediate/Advanced Ballet, Theatre Jazz (Open Level), Advanced Contemporary, Movement Mends (Open Level), Commercial Choreo (Intermediate), Industry Hip-Hop (Advanced), and Heels (Open Level). Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 schedules are available. Adults can join performance companies and professional stage productions, with paid performance opportunities available.

The Youth Programme welcomes dancers ages 3 and up into an inclusive environment where confidence grows alongside technique. Training is level-based, allowing dancers to progress when ready. The studio produces two professionally produced performances each season: a Winter Concert in December and Spring Concert in May. Pre-K dancers perform both ballet and tap in each show. A Professional Training Track serves dancers with collegiate and professional aspirations, offering focused training, mentorship, and performance opportunities. The studio emphasises injury prevention and a no-burnout culture that values smart training over endless hours, allowing time for school, family, and friendships.

Williams has played a pivotal role in shaping aspiring dancers' careers; many of her students have earned scholarships and admission to prestigious institutions including Point Park University, AMDA, and Alvin Ailey. She believes a dance class is more than training—it is an experience that nurtures each student's uniqueness. The studio is located at 700 King St Suite C in downtown Charleston. Studio hours are Monday–Thursday 2:30pm–8:30pm. The studio offers a dancewear store, show tickets, hireable rental space, and a scholarship application process.

She is a professional dancer and educator with over a decade of experience, trained by industry-leading instructors and recognised with judges' choice awards at national competitions. Her students have gone on to attend Point Park University, AMDA, and Alvin Ailey.

Open-level classes like Theatre Jazz, Movement Mends, Beginner Ballet, and Heels welcome those new to dance or returning after time away.
