About this studio

Theatre School of Dance opened in 1962 as the first performing arts institution in North Louisiana to partner with the Royal Academy of Dance. Founder Marion Mills had received extensive training in dance in Europe, competing in Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams and The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance in Tap, Modern Dance and National Dancing. She taught throughout the United States and Europe. Mrs. Mills retired in 1999 and gave the studio to her daughter Celia Mills, who owned and operated it for several years before Emily Huber Seale purchased the school in 2003. Emily trained under Mrs. Mills and completed the Royal Academy of Dance exams through the Advanced 2 level, receiving an associate degree from the Royal Academy. The school has moved several times—from Old Minden Road to North Airline Drive before arriving at its present location on Viking Drive. The new facility on Viking was built in 2019.

The school trains students in ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop at age-appropriate levels. All ballet levels are trained under the Royal Academy of Dance method, which has been around for 100 years. Ballet begins at age 2 with Ballet Beginnings and progresses through Creative Ballet (age 3), Pre Ballet (age 4), Pre Primary (age 5), Primary (age 6, where RAD Exams start), and continues through Level 1–5, Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2. Beginning and Intermediate/Advanced Pointe classes are also available. Jazz training starts at age 6 with Beginning Jazz/1 and progresses through Jazz 2, 3, 4, 5, Intermediate Jazz and Advanced Jazz. Tap instruction begins at age 3 with Tiny Tap and develops musicality and rhythm in young dancers before progressing to Pre Tap, Pre/Primary Tap, Tap 1–5, Intermediate Tap and Advanced Tap. Hip Hop classes are conservative and fun, available for ages 10 and up, with placement by evaluation.

The school emphasises excellence and encourages students to reach their highest potential in all areas of dance while promoting safety and health. Care is taken in training to promote a full, well-rounded dancer. The school encourages modest costumes, clean music and appropriate dance moves. Students train with the goal of using what they learn to bring glory to God in their lives.

Beyond dance classes, Theatre School of Dance runs the Adorare Performing Arts Company, which performs throughout the season. The school presents an annual Year End Recital (scheduled for May 30, 2026 at The Strand Theatre) and seasonal productions, including "A Christmas Carol" presented at The Strand Theatre (with placement auditions held August 23rd for ages 3 and up).

The school also offers Pilates classes on the apparatus for all ages and fitness levels. Pilates instructors are certified through the Physical Mind Institute and the Method of Pilates of New York. Classes include Tower Classes (Monday 12:15–1:00 pm, Tuesday 11:30 am–12:15 pm and 5:45–6:30 pm, Thursday 11:15 am–12:00 pm), Equipment Chair Classes (Monday 11:15 am–12:00 pm, Wednesday 11:15 am–12:00 pm, Thursday 1:00–1:45 pm, Friday 11:15 am–12:00 pm), and Barre Classes. Private and duet Pilates sessions are available upon availability, as well as one-on-one training on the Cadillac and Reformer. Class registration is managed through the MINDBODY app.
