About this studio
Unique Dance in Calgary is run by Roxana and Petre Samoila, former Romanian champions and Canadian Dance Sport Federation adjudicators and instructors who hold Bachelor's degrees in Physical Education and Sports. The studio has established itself on the Canadian Dance Sport map through competition results, with students placing in finals at national and international competitions.
The studio teaches ballroom and Latin dancing across three main streams. The non-competitive program serves children aged 5 and up in 45-minute sessions, blending American and International styles. Students learn Standard dances (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep), Latin (Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive), and Social styles (Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Swing, East Coast Swing, Bachata). The competitive and performance program is designed for students seeking faster progression and discipline, with comprehensive coverage of Ballroom, Latin, and American-style dances. Both single dancers and couples are welcome. The studio also specializes in wedding dance choreography, offering single lessons, packages of 4, 8, or 10 lessons, and group classes for wedding parties.
Private lessons run year-round with an introductory lesson at $60 CAD, single lessons at $90, and packages of 6 ($510) or 12 lessons ($960). Group lessons operate seasonally on Fridays, with Beginner and Pre-Competitive options running September–October ($180 for 9 sessions) and November–December ($140 for 7 sessions). Competitive training classes also run on Mondays and Fridays with pricing that varies by term. Wedding dance lessons start at $85 for a single session or $320–$700 for packages.
The teaching approach emphasizes understanding child psychology and developmental stages, with lessons adapted to individual goals. Students receive instant feedback, personalized exercises for home practice, and support through competition nerves. The studio notes that no refunds are issued for missed lessons and make-up classes are not accommodated.
