Biography
Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner is a Phoenix-born choreographer, dance educator, and artistic director whose work bridges concert dance with investigations of social justice. She began her training in Ballet Folklórico before expanding into ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance, developing a movement vocabulary rooted in jazz and postmodern forms. Gutierrez-Garner founded Company Movimiento, an ensemble through which she has created choreographic research projects that examine urgent social and historical questions. Her piece *All Together Now*, presented in the *Embodying Justice* concert, emerged from choreographic research into nonviolent resistance and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Beyond the concert stage, she has led community-engaged projects including the *LatinX Voices* initiative developed by Company Movimiento. In her academic role as the Robert and Marion Oster Endowed Chair of Dance at Gonzaga University, Gutierrez-Garner continues to frame movement as a means of examining and responding to social justice.
