Biography

Karen Dearborn is a choreographer, educator and founding director of the dance program at Muhlenberg College, where she has taught since 1993. At Muhlenberg, she teaches choreography, modern dance, dance and society, and courses that connect dance with community and health. Over her career, Dearborn has created more than eighty works spanning concert dance, theatre and musical theatre. Her choreographic practice ranges across ballet, modern and contemporary dance, aerial work, and site-specific performance, alongside historically oriented pieces. This range across theatrical, concert, gallery and site-specific contexts reflects a multidisciplinary approach to dance-making rather than adherence to a single codified technique. Through her role as founding director, Dearborn has shaped the institutional framework for dance education at Muhlenberg, establishing a program that integrates artistic creation with pedagogical mission.
