Melvin Timtim

Melvin Timtim is a choreographer, dancer and director whose work bridges the freestyle foundations of hip-hop with commercial and competitive dance. He began breakin' and freestyling at eight years old, and by 14 had encountered choreography through Chapkis Dance Studio, where he later choreographed for the Chapkis Dance Family and held a directorship. His practice draws directly from hip-hop music as core inspiration, shaped by both the street freestyle tradition and the formal studio environment.

Timtim is best known as choreographer and director of S-Rank, a hip-hop crew that became division champions and finished fourth on season two of NBC's *World of Dance*. The choreography he created for that broadcast earned him a 2019 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming. His work with S-Rank reflects his philosophy of creating a family-like creative environment while developing younger dancers within the crew.

Beyond competition and television, Timtim maintains an active international teaching practice. He has worked with K-pop artists, adapting his hip-hop vocabulary to formal training contexts, while continuing to guide the next generation of dancers through S-Rank and other instructional work. His choreography consistently applies the freestyle-informed sensibility of breakin' culture to pieces designed for crew competition and screen performance.
