Celestial Stars Arts Academy has been enhancing lives through dance since 2000. Based at 612 12th St in West Columbia, the academy serves dancers from age 3 through adulthood across three structured divisions: the Celestial School (ages 3–14), the Nova School (ages 12–19), and the Radiance Program (ages 12–19).
The Celestial School is the foundational division where young dancers discover the joy and discipline of dance in a nurturing, structured environment. It includes Creative Movement for ages 3–5, then Pre-Ballet, Tap, and a Boys Class for ages 6–14. Training emphasizes technical skill, musicality, confidence, and classroom etiquette through carefully designed levels.
The Nova School is the pre-professional division for dedicated dancers seeking intensive training. It focuses on Vaganova technique (Russian method), contemporary movement, pointe preparation, and performance. Dancers follow a progressive curriculum in Levels IV–V, with admission to upper levels requiring commitment, maturity, and teacher recommendation. The Nova Ballet Theatre company performs regularly, and students also take Options of Radiance in Tap and Jazz.
The Radiance Program welcomes teen recreational dancers (ages 12–19) who love dance but prefer training without pre-professional demands. Classes include Radiance Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Tap, alongside Stretch and Conditioning and Creative Movement.
All students study Ballet using Vaganova technique, described as rigorous and emphasizing clean lines, strength, and artistry. Students typically spend 2–3 years in each level to fully master technique. Pointe work is introduced gradually between ages 10–12 once a dancer has developed necessary strength and alignment; students must be enrolled in a minimum of three Ballet classes per week to be considered for pointe. The academy also teaches Lyrical (blending Ballet grace with emotional expression), Contemporary (for ages 12+, emphasizing improvisation and modern technique), Tap (combining musicality, coordination, and precision), and Stretch & Conditioning (ages 9+).
Adult classes run throughout the week: Beginner and Intermediate Ballet on Wednesdays, Advanced Ballet on Fridays, Advanced Pointe on Tuesdays, Contemporary classes on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Tap on Tuesdays, and Argentine Tango on Fridays with a beginner class and practica (social practice) on the first Friday of each month starting September.
The academy's calendar includes major events: an Open House in July, auditions for the Christmas Angel production and Nova Ballet Theatre in August, the Moonlight Masquerade in October, the Christmas Angel performance in December, the Starlight Gala at Icehouse Amphitheatre in April, and the 28th Annual Revue in May. The studio also rents its space for events, photographers, dance teachers, and groups.
