Heart Beatz Dance Academy - James Island

Heart Beatz Dance Academy operates four locations across Charleston, including James Island, and teaches dance to children ages 15 months through 12 years. Classes cover ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and creative movement, with instruction thoughtfully designed for each age group. The academy emphasises building confidence, creativity, coordination, and lifelong friendships through fun, engaging classes.

Beyond the studio, Heart Beatz brings dance directly to Charleston schools through on-site enrichment programmes at preschools and elementary schools. These 45-minute classes, grouped by age for children ages 2–5 and ages 6+, cover creative movement fundamentals, ballet basics, and jazz and hip-hop for rhythm and self-expression. The academy partners with schools including Palmetto Christian Daycare on Johns Island, Fort Johnson Christian School on James Island, and Saint James Anglican Day School on James Island, running spring, summer, and fall sessions.

The academy runs a Mom's Morning Out programme for ages 1.5–5 years, blending dance, music, creative arts, storytime, movement, and sensory play with kindergarten readiness. It operates with a 5:1 child-to-teacher ratio and is available at multiple Charleston locations including James Island.

Special events and camps round out the year-round offering. Summer dance camps, winter break camps, spring break camps, and kids night out events are available for ages 3–10. Birthday parties can be booked at the studio locations on Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00–5:30 PM, with all-inclusive packages that cover decorations, setup, cleanup, cupcakes, juice, goody bags, and an interactive dance class. Special events like the Spa-Tacular Night Out (for girls ages 7–12) run throughout the year.

Recitals take place twice yearly at West Ashley High School, offering performance opportunities in the Fall and Spring Recitals. The academy also offers performance teams for interested dancers.

Classes are age-grouped and designed to be welcoming for all levels, from toddlers taking their first class to experienced young dancers. Drop-in trial classes are free, and the academy supports unlimited make-ups.
