Magnify Dance Center

Magnify Dance Center teaches ballet, jazz and contemporary dance to students from age 2 through adult. The school organizes classes by age and experience: a Primary Division for ages 2–7 introduces classical dance through lively music and props; a Junior Division for ages 6–13 builds placement and technique; a Teen & Adult Division serves absolute beginners through advanced dancers; and a Conservatory Division provides pre-professional training with faculty coaching in nutrition, cross-training and emotional support.

The studio's mission is to nurture students to achieve their fullest potential through comprehensive dance training built on a strong foundation of classical ballet. Adult dancers will develop proper placement of torso, hips and legs without exceeding anatomical limitations, with emphasis on core strength, spinal length and coordination of arms and head. Beginning adult dancers take classes in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere designed without intimidation.

Magnify Dance Center also operates Magnify Dance Ensemble (formerly The Performers Ballet & Jazz Company), a performing company founded in 1981 by Karen Alwin. The ensemble has produced Christmas Joy, described as an Albuquerque tradition celebrating over 35 years of performances with over 600 alumni. The company received the Bravos Award for Dance Excellence in 1999 and the Q-Claps Applause Award in 2012. Additional productions include How Love Wins (2014), a spring-season concert choreographed by Wendy Miner; Spring Gala (2019), featuring classical and contemporary works choreographed by Alex Ketley, Karen Alwin, Andrea Basile, Wendy Miner and Kelsey Paschich; and the Dancer Initiative Project, in which senior company dancers create and choreograph new works.

In 2020, Andrea Basile became Artistic Director after a 20-year dance career in San Francisco. In 2022, Lindsay Dekleva and Lauren Maddock were named Co-Artistic Directors. The ensemble's alumni have gone on to dance companies including American Ballet Theater, Ballet Nuveau Colorado, Richmond Ballet, Ballet Austin, and The Rockettes, as well as college dance programmes including Point Park University, San Francisco Ballet School, the University of New Mexico Dance Department and North Carolina School of the Arts.

The studio offers summer programming including the Young Dancers Workshop (ages 6–11, typically June, one week), which includes classes in multiple genres, cross-training, improvisation and dance history. A Mini Young Dancers Workshop is also available for younger dancers. The studio invites visitors to book a tour.

Classes are organized by level and age. Adult ballet classes run Mondays 7:30–8:45 pm (Beginning/Intermediate) and Saturdays 8:45–10:00 am (Intermediate). Dress code is form-fitting clothes and ballet slippers; leotards and tights are acceptable but not required. Drop-in is $25 per class, or buy a 10-class card for $180 (valid 6 months).

Lindsay is Studio Director. The ensemble company lists choreographers including Andrea Basile, Lynn Cox, Lindsay Warner, Wendy Miner, Kelsey Paschich and Lauren Maddock, plus rehearsal directors Kara Carroll, Claire Jones, Mady Kettler and Carolina Valverde.

Adult classes are designed for absolute beginners and allow dancers to develop proper placement without intimidation in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
