About this studio
Established in 1990, New Orleans Dance Academy teaches classical ballet, flamenco, jazz, tap, and hip hop in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere at 5956 Magazine Street. The studio welcomes all ages and skill levels, from young children through professional adult dancers.
Children's classes are structured by age and ability, starting with Creative Movement & Pre-Ballet, Primary Ballet, and Ballet at various levels. The studio also offers Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop for children. All students are placed based on skill, ability, experience, and maturity level, with class placement adjustable on teacher recommendation. Children's classes culminate in an annual spring performance held in a professional theater. The high-quality, age-appropriate costumes are ordered for you, and performing is presented as an integral part of dance education, building confidence and self-esteem.
Adult classes run year-round and range from beginner to professional levels. The schedule includes Beginner Ballet (Tuesdays 7:20–8:55pm), Beginner/Intermediate Ballet (Thursdays 7:15–8:45pm), Advanced Ballet (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays 10:00am–12:00pm), Beginner Tap (Thursdays 6:15–7:15pm), Intermediate Tap (Tuesdays 7:15–8:15pm), and Beginner/Intermediate Jazz (Wednesdays 7:45–9:00pm). Hip Hop Community Class meets Monday at 7:30pm for $5. Adults may attend single classes or register for monthly rates. The studio also offers community classes occasionally to promote new teachers.
Private lessons are available for dancers of all levels seeking specialized attention, choreography for weddings or auditions, technique strengthening, or injury recovery. The faculty consists of highly trained educators with knowledge of major training techniques. Advance sign-up is required for most classes; registration is available online.
