About this studio
Stage Door Dance Productions is a locally owned performing arts studio with two locations in Raleigh: the flagship Brier Creek facility (2720 Godley Lane) and the boutique Lake Boone location (4035 Lake Boone Trail). Founded in 2009, the studio has built its reputation on a whole-child approach that integrates technique, performance, community, and character development.
The studio teaches ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, acrobatics, contemporary, modern, lyrical, musical theater, and spirit squad offerings (dance team, cheer, pom). Classes are organised into age-based and skill-based cohorts: Toddler Dance & Tumble (ages 2–3), Preschool Dance & Acro (ages 3–4), PreK Dance & Acro (ages 4–5), and placement-based cohorts from Debut through Senior Conservatory for ages 5 and up. All classes use custom, non-leveled curricula designed specifically by the studio. The studio also offers Strength & Conditioning classes, Leadership Development programs (Junior Leadership Club for 3rd–5th graders and National Honor Society for Dance Arts chapters for middle and high schoolers), and pop-up dance opportunities for adults.
Stage Door moved away from competitive dance in 2015, instead developing the Be More Performance Ensemble as its flagship performance pathway. Performance teams are offered at both locations—Petite, Mini, Junior, and Teen Performance Troupes at Lake Boone, and the Be More Performance Ensemble, Be More Tap Company, and Be More Ballet Company at Brier Creek. All dancers participate in Recitalpalooza (held June 4–6, 2027 at Brier Creek), the studio's signature recital weekend. Since 2017, Stage Door dancers have raised over $290,000 for non-profit partners. The studio also launched Girls Geared For Greatness, an affiliated 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The founder has written two books—Trash the Trophies and Handle the Horrible—and delivered a TEDx talk on the studio's philosophy. Alumni have attended prestigious academic and arts universities on full scholarship, performed on Broadway and in film/TV, and returned to mentor current students. The studio received the 2026 Raleigh Medal of the Arts, awarded to founder and owner Chasta. Registration for the 2026–2027 season is open; many classes are approaching capacity.

Your first visit
New students can sign up for a trial pass. Classes are age-appropriate and structured by skill level via placement-based cohorts. You'll find instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatics, and other styles, with a focus on technique and artistic expression. Recital participation is part of the experience at Brier Creek.

Studio history
Stage Door Dance Productions was founded by a Park Scholarship recipient at NC State University who chose to pursue dance rather than law. Operating initially as 'Studio C', the studio took its official name during a November 2008 trip to New York City, inspired by the metaphor of 'a gateway to greatness'. The flagship Brier Creek location opened in June 2009 in a newer development near the Raleigh-Durham airport. A second location at Lake Boone followed in 2014 as a boutique extension of the primary facility. The studio is a small, locally owned business built from the ground up, not a franchise or national chain. In 2015, the studio made the rare decision to step away from competitive dance entirely, rebranding and focusing instead on the Be More Performance Ensemble and a whole-child education model.
