About this studio

Star Dance Centre sits on the third floor of a building directly connected to Yonge-Sheppard subway station in North York. Founded by Fiona Su, a Canadian National Champion, the studio has taught over 19,620 hours of classes to more than 2,089 students across 62 competitions and 218 wedding couples.

The studio occupies spacious rooms with a soft sprung floor—described in reviews as padded wooden and among the highest grade in the city. The space features 8-foot mirrors, high ceilings, natural light from windows, and audiophile-grade speakers. There is a harness system for cabaret work and a comfortable waiting area with benches for parents.

Classes span salsa, bachata, Latin (samba, cha cha, rumba, jive), tango, freestyle dancing, ballroom, line dance, waltz, hip-hop, heels, K-pop, jazz, reggaeton, and more. Drop-in classes run most evenings; Latin classes include a Bronze Level Thursday 7:00–8:00pm where dances rotate monthly, and a Lady Styling—Samba class Tuesdays 8:00–9:00pm. Summer kids classes run July 14 to September 12 for ages 5 and up, with hip-hop and K-pop on Saturdays and hip-hop on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The studio runs the annual Dance On Yonge Festival, a 3-day event in July at Mel Lastman Square in North York that drew over 17,000 attendees in 2025 and generated media coverage from OmniTV and BlogTO. Performance programs prepare students for this showcase and cost $325–$375 depending on the style and timing of registration. Instructors named in reviews and program listings include Fiona, Mishka, Fred, Shirley, Momo, Ilinca, Kosta, Kyle, Chris, Cindy, Angela, Kent, Carolin, Danny, and JD.

The studio also offers private lessons, wedding dance packages (tailored for couples with zero dance backgrounds), kids birthday parties, bachelorette and private parties, and studio rental. Premium wellness classes include yoga, stretching, hot yoga, bungee fitness, aerial yoga, and aerial hammocks.
