About this studio
Sunflower State Dance teaches dance to students from 18 months through adulthood. The studio divides its school-age offering into three divisions: Little Seeds (preschool), Roots (elementary age), and Bloom (intermediate and advanced levels), plus dedicated adult classes. Summer classes run in July, with offerings like Introduction to Dance (ages 2.5–4), Magical Ballerinas: Guardians of the Dance (ages 4–6), and K-Pop Golden Hour (ages 7+).
The studio's teaching philosophy rests on four pillars: Safety First, Technique Matters, Artistry & Expression, and Family Focused. All instructors are background checked and certified in CPR, First Aid, and Youth Mental Health First Aid. The facility has Marley sprung floors to prevent injury. Instructors are university-trained and work from a classically based curriculum emphasizing proper placement. Class sizes are kept small for personalised attention, and younger students often take combo classes—ballet and tap together, one night a week.
For preschoolers, Little Seeds offers Move and Groove With Me (parent-and-tot, ages 18 months to 3.5 years), Itty Bitty Ballet (ages 3–4), and Tiny Dancer, a ballet-tap-tumbling combo for ages 4–5. School-age divisions build real technique in ballet, tap, jazz, and more at a pace designed to keep learning fun. The studio also runs a Performing Company for students interested in showcase opportunities.
Adult classes include Beginner Adult Tap and Intermediate Adult Tap, with ongoing monthly enrolment. The studio recently introduced an Adult Beginner Salsa Mini Session—a six-week couples class designed as a date-night experience, teaching fundamentals including basic steps, turns, and rhythm in a relaxed atmosphere. No prior experience is needed.
The studio emphasises community engagement and sees art education as supporting learning skills, logical thinking, fine motor development, emotional health, and creative outlets. Online registration is available, and there is an on-site dancewear shop. The location is off K-10, convenient for Lawrence families. The studio runs a non-competitive, family-friendly recital to showcase student growth.
