About this studio
Sydney Vintage Dance Studio was founded in 2015 by Sydney dancer and burlesque artist Sheena Miss Demeanour. The studio is an adult learning space for all levels, from complete beginners to those more experienced. You'll find it on Levels 1–2 of 249 Marrickville Road in Marrickville, located on Gadigal land within the Eora Nation.
The studio specialises in 20th-century dance styles: burlesque, feather fan dancing, showgirl, 20s Charleston, 60s GoGo, 70s Disco, and 80s retro. They've expanded to include contemporary and technical styles—flamenco, tribal belly dance, ballet, tap, heels, contemporary, and barre. The studio is decorated with vintage furnishings, historical costume pieces and props, creating an immersive space for learning these styles.
Instructors are qualified and seasoned Sydney artists with high-level experience in their styles. The studio also welcomes guest interstate and internationally touring instructors. The teaching team includes Bella Louche, Basjia, Suzy Lafosse, Lulu, Paloma Negra, Sheena, Benedict, Jade, Monsoon, Leah, Ahlex, Kate, Vera, Storm, and Turquoise Delite.
Courses run for 4, 6, or 8 weeks, plus mini terms and one-off specialised workshops, so you can learn at your own pace. Drop-in casual classes are available if you prefer flexibility. Performance courses offer the chance to showcase what you've learned at local entertainment events around Sydney. The studio is committed to creating a non-judgemental, fun, supportive and body-positive environment for all students.
