The Jewel of Art Dance Studio occupies the restored north side of the historic Parkmoor building at 1909 Fredericksburg Road, a 1920s Colonial Revival structure that was one of San Antonio's first shopping centers.

About this studio
The Jewel of Art Dance Studio occupies the restored north side of the historic Parkmoor building at 1909 Fredericksburg Road, a 1920s Colonial Revival structure that was one of San Antonio's first shopping centers. After decades of abandonment, the building has been restored to its original grandeur and now houses the studio, which takes pride in being part of the Monticello historical district.
The studio teaches ballet (including pointe), hip hop, jazz, tap, tumbling, modern/contemporary, and specialty classes. Classes are structured by age and level. Ballet begins with proper alignment and vocabulary, progressing through intermediate barre work to advanced pointe (teacher approval required). Jazz moves from beginner focus on alignment and technique (ages 8–10) through intermediate rhythm and choreography (11–14) to advanced (14+). Hip hop ranges from beginner/intermediate (ages 8–13) using new and old styles, to advanced classes (13+) featuring lyrical hip hop and east and west coast styles, plus Hip Hop Heels for ages 18+. Tap is offered in two levels: Tap I (ages 6–10, emphasising technique and clear sounds) and Tap II (ages 11+, with progressively complex curriculum).
Specialty offerings include Tumbling 101 (ages 7+, focusing on gymnastics training, strength and flexibility), Combo I (ages 4–5, introducing ballet, tap, creative dance and singing) and Combo II (ages 6–7, combining ballet, jazz and tumbling). For younger children, Mommy & Me classes run 45 minutes for ages 18 months to 3 years. Contemporary and modern classes teach Graham, Horton, Hawkins, Limon and Duncan styles at beginning-to-intermediate and intermediate-to-advanced levels. Urban Expression is an 18+ full-body workout class in hip hop and R&B.
Jewels & Co. is an audition-based company for accepted members, with mandatory practices and performance opportunities across all studio events. The studio also runs Master Dance Workshops, quinceañera training and choreography, Birthday Dance Party packages, and studio rental.
Hours are Monday–Thursday 4:00pm–9:30pm, Friday 4:00pm–6:00pm, and Saturday 10:00am–1:30pm. The studio mission emphasises creating an atmosphere where inexperienced dancers can develop technique, expects discipline, confidence, commitment, dedication, artistry and passion, and welcomes people of all experience levels.

Studio history
The building at 1909 Fredericksburg Road opened in 1925 as the Parkmoor Drugstore, a 1920s Colonial Revival community center designed with a $70,000 investment by J. Frank Gallagher, J.W. Bluise and J.E. Gallagher. The south half was demolished in the 1980s and left abandoned for over three decades. The north side has since been restored to its original grandeur and now houses The Jewel of Art Dance Studio, which is proud to be part of the Monticello historical district.
