About this studio
Ballet West Academy is the official school of Ballet West, a professional dance company. Across four locations—the Janet Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre downtown, Trolley Corners, Park City, and Utah County—the academy serves students from ages 3 through pre-professional training.
The academy operates five divisions. Beginning classes (ages 3–6) introduce dance through play in a nurturing environment. Elementary classes (ages 7+) expand technique while respecting each child's physical and cognitive development. Student Division levels 1–8 (ages 9+) require audition and involve year-round training with performances in Winter, Spring, and Contemporary Showcases. The Professional Training Division, established in 2015, serves serious students ages 14 and up by audition or invitation only, with a contracted year of study. The Trainee Program, created in 2009, extends formal training post-secondary with 22+ hours per week.
The academy trains pure classical ballet using a uniquely American syllabus developed by Academy Director Evelyn Cisneros-Legate and Associate Director of Curriculum Stacey Mahan, EdM. The curriculum draws on research in physical, cognitive, and emotional child development. A notable statistic: 75% of Ballet West's current professional company trained at the academy. The Summer Intensive program is recognized as one of the nation's top intensive programs, bringing guest artists, choreographers, and ballet masters from around the world.
Adult classes run seven days a week at all four locations for ages 13 and older, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. A Starter Series introduces new adult beginners. Summer workshops for adults combine daily technique classes with variations, conditioning, and contemporary movement, culminating in an informal showcase. The academy also offers studio rentals across all four locations, with spaces ranging from 1,800 square feet to smaller studios for short- and long-term use.

Adult classes are coed without spectators. Beginners and intermediate students wear casual attire such as dance shoes and yoga pants; intermediate/advanced students require ballet slippers or pointe shoes if trained. The dress code is otherwise flexible. Bring a plastic water bottle that closes tightly; food, drinks, gum, and strong perfumes are not allowed in studios.
