About this studio

Lua Dance Club in Allison Park teaches dance to students from infancy through adulthood. The studio's mission centres on more than steps: it aims to equip students with life skills extending beyond the studio, building confidence, discipline, and an appreciation for human expression through movement. Every class introduces students to languages including Portuguese, French, and Spanish, connecting movement to diverse musical traditions.

The studio serves toddlers through adults across multiple dance styles. For the youngest learners, Mommy and Me Club (ages 1–3) offers a bonding experience through creative movement and first dance steps. Toddler Little Star (ages 3–3.5) introduces motor skills and expression, with parents able to stay or gradually transition their child to independent classes. Little Star Club (ages 3–7) explores ballet, jazz, and tap with props, music, and a dance party finale.

Kids' classes span Ballet Club (ages 6–14), which teaches fundamental classical ballet using the barre, alignment, flexibility, and coordination; Modern Club (ages 8–16), described as a fusion of contemporary, ballet, and jazz incorporating strength, flexibility, and floor work; Latin Jazz Club (ages 6–16), which explores samba jazz and ballet technique with props; Hip Hop (ages 6–14), a high-energy class emphasizing self-confidence and personal style; and Acro Club (ages 4–teens, levels 1–3), combining classical technique with acrobatic movements. The studio also offers two levels of aerial silks training: Silks Fundamentals for beginners learning foot locks, climbs, safe descents, and beginner-level drops and inversions; and Silk Techniques for students with over a year of silks training, focusing on precision, artistry, pointed toes, straight legs, and choreographed sequences. Kangoo Jumps (ages 15+) is an aerobic programme in rebound shoes that reduces joint stress.

Adult classes include Latin Jazz technique (all levels, all genders), covering samba and other Latin dances with jazz combinations and focus on hips, waist, posture, and musicality; a separate intermediate-to-advanced Samba choreography class for men and women featuring fast-speed samba with hips, jumps, and walking techniques (high heels encouraged for women); Adult Tap (all levels), which welcomes beginners and returning dancers alike; and Salsa (ages 13–adult, beginner–intermediate), focusing on strong foundations.

The studio operates year-round and is non-competitive, focused on nurturing growth rather than competition rankings. Students showcase skills in the annual Gala Recital, community performances, parades, and demonstrations. Participation is based on class enrollment, as the studio believes regular attendance creates cohesive, synchronized groups. The studio holds summer camps with themed weeks (Water Dance, Crafts, Paint/Dance, Princess/Superhero/Fairies, Glow in the Dark, Around the World, Cirque Spectacular, Acro Jumps Obstacle Course) and special events including Costume/Fall Week, Pajama Week, and Bring-a-Friend Week. Owner Luciana leads a teaching staff including Xuxa, Carla, Cindy, Alea, Ifeyinwa, Rebecca, Sofia, Daria, Marlenna, and Katie. The studio also operates Pittsburgh Samba Group, offers wedding and private event choreography, and rents its space.
