About this studio
On Pointe Dance Centre has been teaching dance for over 15 years in Northwest Omaha on 120th & Blondo. The studio serves students of all ages and levels across a wide range of styles: ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, pointe, clogging, contemporary, dance theatre, and yoga. Classes run from September through May, culminating in a spring recital at Westside High School where dancers perform on a professional theater stage.
The studio operates three large classrooms and maintains an on-site apparel store where you can buy dance and yoga wear at competitive prices. The facility includes dressing rooms and a large lobby. Classes are structured by age and ability, starting with Wiggles and Giggles for 2–4 year olds and progressing through combo classes (ballet and tap together) before splitting into technique-focused styles. Older students can pursue pre-pointe, pointe (for ages 12+), and advanced classes in lyrical and contemporary that require enrollment in both ballet and jazz at specified levels.
Specialist classes include leaps, turns and jumps technique (a 30-minute focused session), tumbling, and musical theatre jazz. The studio also runs an award-winning competition team with intensive summer preparation. Summer camps and classes are offered in June and July, including themed camps like Wickedly Wonderful Dance Camp and Aloha Dance Party Camp, plus technique intensives for competition dancers. Summer drop-in classes cover intro to dance, hip-hop, clogging basics, acro and aerial clinic, leaps and jumps, and turn technique clinic.
Owner and director Alyssa Worick has owned the studio for 5 years and has been teaching there since 2005. She is a certified instructor in many genres and specializes in lyrical and tap. The teaching staff includes Jori Thompson (15 years at OPDC, teaches jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, acro, and leaps/turns), Lauren Kloos (studied at Oklahoma City University's school of the arts under Debbie Allen and other renowned teachers), Marissa Heckerson (grew up dancing at OPDC, kindergarten teacher, specializes in tap), Trish Blaschko (teaches theatre, leaps/turns/jumps, and jazz, with a theatre minor from Missouri State University), Kenzie Brown (currently dances at University of Nebraska Omaha, trains in ballet, tap, lyrical, hip-hop, pointe, and jazz), and Bethany Krenzer (danced for Nebraska Wesleyan University's Gold Rush Dance Team).
Recital participation is encouraged for all dancers ages 3 and older. Each class performs one or more routines with coordinated costumes. The studio uses specific attire requirements for each style—pink ballet shoes and leotards for ballet, black tap shoes for tap, jazz shoes for jazz—to help build a professional training environment.
