About this studio
The Floor Dance Company is located at 812 Monroe Ave in Rochester, NY. Founded and directed by Kristie L. Schillaci, the studio teaches technique classes in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip-hop and tumbling to students ages 2 and up. Classes are structured yet encouraging, designed to challenge both beginner and advanced dancers.
The studio separates teen technique classes from performance classes to meet each dancer's individual needs. All students have the opportunity to perform at The Floor Spring Dance Concert in June. Dancers interested in more intensive training can audition to join The Floor Performance Company, which competes at events including Starbound and 3Sixty competitions. The studio's mission is to inspire dancers to be creative, confident and to succeed — focusing on pushing students beyond their limits while building self-confidence and lasting friendships.
Adult classes are offered for ages 18+, with intermediate and advanced drop-in options in contemporary, jazz, heels and hip-hop. Adult classes run weekly with a warm-up followed by a new combination each session, at $15 per drop-in class or $30 per 2-week session. Payment accepts cash, check or Venmo.
Summer programming includes intensive camps for ages 8–20 (running July and August in 1–4 week blocks), a Pre-Mini Company invite-only camp for ages 7–10, a Kids Summer Dance Camp for ages 5–9, Teen Tech summer classes for ages 12–18, and Creative Movement and technique classes for ages 2.5–10. Summer intensives cover ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, musical theater, contemporary and tumbling.
The studio is active in the community, partnering with organisations including Endless Highway, The Center for Youth and the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
